Eating Meat

So I wasn't as good as I had hoped at the whole not eating meat thing.  We had the twins birthday party on Sat and we had a cold cut platter and I had a ham sandwich. Not too bad you might say, except I also had bacon and shepard's pie on Sunday.  The only good thing is that these were food items I had in the house so if I didn't eat them, I probably would have thrown them out and that would have been wasteful.    I am planning on keeping my resolve to not really eat meat.  I have little to no desire to eat any type of meat on a regular basis.  I will have to eat some things with meat though, because I have a family that likes to eat meat.  We will continue to eat less meat and more beans, and if possible, eat meat that is treated in a humane safe and healthy way.

  1. Rather than go fully vegetarian, I'm finding it easier to go on a low-meat diet. I'd say about 1/2 the time we eat vegetarian meals, then most of the time, we eat meals that have just a little meat in them, like last night we had bean and kale soup made with chicken stock, and tonight we're having thai peanut noodles with broccoli and one chicken breast cut up and mixed in for the whole family.

I totally know what you mean about eating meat after watching Food, Inc. Yikes!

  2. What a card- I actually agree with you. I am just currently having a hard time eating meat. I'm sure that on time I'll be eating meat again, but like you said, eat less. Thanks for the comment! : )

  3. I think it's great that you are reducing the amount of meat in your diet ... it's good for health ... it's good for the planet ... and, of course, it's good for animals. My husband and I became vegetarian some years ago and I love it ... there's such a variety of dishes and flavors.

I read that if we each ate one meatless meal a week, we'd have a huge, positive environmental impact. So don't be hard on yourself for a meat meal once in awhile ... you're doing great!

  4. Hi, Amy! I've added you to the NE Bloggers list. We have several members who blog about living local, I hope you check them out. If you'd like to receive emails when we do things like our current birthday carnival, drop me an email. e_bogardus AT hotmail
